Lai Mohammed:Akpabio到底在监督什么?他从未离开过酒店,然而奥孙州的人却跑来跑去。

Aliu Mohammed, the Chief Executive Officer of Magnate Communication and a public affairs analyst, has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s decision to travel to Osun State during the governorship election. Mohammed questioned the purpose of the visit and the role Akpabio was expected to play in the state while speaking about developments surrounding the election during an interview with Vanguard News TV on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

The analyst asked what the Senate President was supposed to monitor, noting that political parties already had representatives, agents, and established organizational structures in place to observe the voting process and report developments. In Mohammed’s view, Akpabio’s presence did not appear to serve a clearly defined electoral purpose.

“Why would a senate president come to monitor an election. What is he monitoring. He didn’t come out of his hotel and the Osun people came attempting to attack them and they had to run away,” Mohammed said.

His comments came amid public reactions to the presence of prominent All Progressives Congress figures in Osun State during the election. Mohammed specifically questioned whether the Senate President needed to travel personally to the state when party officials and local structures were already available to monitor the exercise on behalf of their respective organizations.

According to the analyst, Akpabio allegedly remained inside his hotel throughout the visit rather than moving around the state to observe events directly. Mohammed further claimed that tensions developed when some residents approached the visiting political officials, creating an uncomfortable situation for the group.

He alleged that the officials ultimately had to leave the area because of concerns about their safety. The claims, as presented by Mohammed, have contributed to broader debate about the involvement of senior national politicians in state-level elections, including whether their presence promotes confidence in the electoral process or risks escalating political tensions.

The discussion also highlights questions about the appropriate responsibilities of national officeholders during local elections and whether their participation should be limited to party coordination, observation, or other clearly defined activities.
