Arsenal clarify their position on Myles Lewis-Skelly after a £45 million Manchester United transfer is called a “no-brainer.”

Arsenal remain satisfied with Myles Lewis-Skelly’s progress and have no current intention of allowing the highly rated teenager to leave the Emirates Stadium, CEO Richard Garlick has confirmed amid renewed speculation linking the defender with Manchester United.Questions about Lewis-Skelly’s long-term future at Arsenal emerged recently after Manchester United and Chelsea were reportedly presented with an opportunity to sign the 19-year-old.

According to Standard Sport, intermediaries had contacted the two clubs, although Lewis-Skelly himself is understood to have no plans to seek a move away from north London. The speculation has nevertheless prompted comments from Manchester United great Wayne Rooney. The former England striker described a potential move for Lewis-Skelly as an “absolute no-brainer,” particularly if the reported asking price of approximately £45 million proved accurate.Speaking on the Stick to United podcast, Rooney said he was unconvinced that Luke Shaw could remain consistently available and effective throughout an entire season. That concern, he explained, made Lewis-Skelly an appealing option for United’s left-back position.

“I don’t think you can rely on Luke Shaw to be consistent for the whole season, and that leads me to Myles Lewis-Skelly,” Rooney said.“We’re hearing that he could be available for not that much money, so I think that’s an absolute no-brainer.“If you can bring in a player who is capable of playing both left-back and central midfield, that’s an absolute no-brainer. He’s young, and he has a massive future ahead of him.“Arsenal have spent a lot over the last couple of years, so selling Lewis-Skelly could make financial sense because the fee would represent pure profit. I don’t think it would be a great look, but I can understand why they might consider selling him.“If you’re United and he becomes available, it’s a no-brainer.

They definitely need to sign a left-back, and that has to be a priority for them.”Despite Rooney’s endorsement and the reported interest from rival clubs, Garlick has now sought to end the speculation. The Arsenal chief executive emphasized that Lewis-Skelly enjoyed an excellent conclusion to the previous campaign and made a strong start to the current season, reinforcing the club’s desire to keep developing its best young players rather than cashing in on them.“Myles had a fantastic end to last season, and he started this season really well,” Garlick told talkSPORT. “As I say, we’re always looking to retain and build on our best players.“Obviously, there may be speculation. I’m not going to go into that from other clubs, but we’re very happy with Myles and the position he’s in at the club.”
