Afrobeats superstar Davido has suggested that he could eventually step away from music to concentrate on expanding his wealth and pursuing billionaire status. The singer made the comment during a heated exchange with Nigerian rapper Erigga on X, formerly known as Twitter, over whether artists from financially privileged families have an easier route to success. The disagreement began after Erigga recognized musicians who did not come from wealthy backgrounds and had to work hard to earn every dollar and establish their careers.
“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote.Davido challenged that viewpoint, arguing that being born into a wealthy family does not automatically mean a person avoids hard work or cannot earn success through personal effort. “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top,” Davido responded. The conversation later became more confrontational.
Davido dismissed Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and referred to him as an “imbecile,” intensifying the dispute between the two artists.During the exchange, Davido also appeared to offer a glimpse into his long-term plans. His remarks suggested that, after establishing himself in music, he may eventually leave the industry and redirect his energy toward creating even greater wealth and making billions.
“No worry o, I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” he wrote, suggesting that he may eventually step away from music after earning enough money to pursue his financial ambitions. He also implied that continuing in the industry could lose its appeal once he achieves that goal. The remark quickly generated reactions online, prompting fans and other social media users to debate whether the singer was seriously considering leaving music in the future.
While some treated the comment as a joke or a moment of frustration, others viewed it as a possible indication of his long-term plans.Davido has previously expressed interest in business and other ventures beyond music, making the latest statement especially noteworthy. His history of exploring opportunities outside entertainment has added to speculation about what he might focus on if he eventually reduces his involvement in the music industry. He concluded the exchange with a direct question about poverty, asking, “Deep down, who like poverty?”
