Members of the disbanded State Working Committee were requested to leave the party’s state secretariat by the newly established 16-member State Caretaker Committee, which has caused a new crisis for the Peoples Democratic Party in Taraba State.
According to Naija News, Dr. Falack Victor, the chairman of the Caretaker Committee, released a statement on Thursday night announcing the decision. He cautioned that failure to comply could result in legal action against the former SWC members, stating that they no longer had the right to be in the secretariat after being removed from office. He asserts that it is illegal to stay at the party office following a legal dissolution. He stressed that no one is superior than the party or the law and maintained that the committee is operating within the bounds of the law.Additionally, rather than criticizing the national leadership, he asked party members to concentrate on rebuilding the party in the state.
The development came when the disbanded SWC rejected the caretaker body’s authority in a press statement issued on February 24, 2026.The former executives accused the committee of deceiving party members and said it lacked constitutional support. In response to the allegation, Dr. Victor stated that a ruling from the Federal High Court in Ibadan is the source of the caretaker committee’s authority.Justice U.N. Agomoh gave the decision on January 30, 2026.
The court ruled that all of the decisions made during the PDP convention, which was held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, were void.He went on to say that the ruling instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission to handle the National Caretaker Committee as the sole legitimate entity authorized to oversee the party’s operations.According to Dr. Victor, the caretaker committee’s goal is not to single anyone out but rather to bring peace back to Taraba State’s party system. He urged members to refrain from acting in a factional manner and to back initiatives aimed at achieving unity.
