Fintiri is one of the four governors who were left in the PDP, following the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Umo Eno, Agbu Kefas, Siminalayi Fubara, and Peter Mbah of Delta, Akwa Ibom, Taraba, Rivers and Enugu states, respectively. Currently, the PDP has Governor Fintiri, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Channels Television reported that the governor announced that he moved to the APC along with all his cabinet members, appointees and the elected local government chairmen.

He explained that his decision was informed by the interest of the people of Adamawa state as well as national unity. He emphasised the need for a stronger alignment with the federal government in bringing more development to the state.

Earlier on Wednesday, February 25, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly dumped the leading opposition PDP, along with 14 other lawmakers, when they resigned their membership from the party.

The speaker announced the development during plenary and presented letters of resignation from the affected lawmakers.

Following the conclusion of the legislative business, the speaker called for order and read the withdrawal letters one after the other. This confirmed their exit from the ruling party.

One of the lawmakers who defected, Mahmud Kallamu, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, said the development was strategic. Speaking on the sidelines, an APC lawmaker disclosed that the defector would be welcomed if they decided to join the party.
