Omoyele Sowore, the presidential hopeful for the African Action Congress in the 2027 general elections, has publicly voiced serious concerns regarding the gubernatorial leadership in Osun State. During a recent appearance on the breakfast program of News Central TV on Thursday, Sowore asserted that Governor Ademola Adeleke is not exercising full autonomy over the functions of his administration.
He specifically alleged that crucial decision-making processes within the state government are being unduly influenced by members of the governor’s extended family. Sowore pointedly named the governor’s sister and his elder brother, Adedeji Adeleke – who is also the father of renowned music artist Davido – as individuals wielding substantial sway over the state’s affairs.Expressing his observations, Sowore stated, “What I saw in Adeleke’s leadership is that the guy is not even in control of his government.”
This sentiment was further elaborated upon by the activist, who claimed that intelligence gathered indicated a significant involvement of Adeleke family members in the day-to-day governance of Osun State. He elaborated on these allegations by remarking, “What I know behind the scenes is… I heard that Adeleke’s sister is the one running the state. And his elder brother, who is Davido’s father, also. So it’s a family, pretty much, running the state.
“Sowore further articulated his disappointment with Governor Adeleke’s performance, particularly citing the governor’s participation in a recent Arise TV town hall meeting that featured candidates vying for the Osun governorship. He confessed to being “appalled” by Adeleke’s presentation during the televised event, asserting that the governor’s performance at the town hall meeting only served to validate and deepen his existing reservations about the caliber of leadership currently at the helm in Osun State.
