The Osun State Police Command has officially announced the release of Mr. Teslim Igbalaye, who holds the position of Secretary to the State Government (SSG). His release occurred earlier today, as confirmed by the police. This development comes after Igbalaye’s recent arrest, during which he was detained alongside five other individuals on suspicions related to vote-buying activities, a serious offense that raises concerns about electoral integrity.
DAILY POST previously reported that the police conducted a search at Igbalaye’s residence, where they discovered a number of incriminating items, including Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), significant amounts of cash, and a comprehensive voters’ register. These findings are crucial to the ongoing investigation, which aims to uncover the extent of the alleged electoral malpractices.
In addition to Igbalaye, the police apprehended several other suspects at the location. Among them was Abiodun Arowomole, more commonly referred to by his nickname “Ashipa.” Arowomole has garnered attention due to his status as a wanted murder suspect who has been noted on the police command’s watch list. The other individuals taken into custody include Taiwo Akande, Lukman Adeyemo, Muftau Olaoye, and Musiliu Aderemi. The involvement of these individuals raises further questions about potential connections to organized crime and electoral wrongdoing in the state.
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the spokesperson for the police command, provided an update on the situation, emphasizing that while Mr. Igbalaye has been released from custody, the investigation is far from over. He stated, “I can only tell you that the SSG, Mr. Teslim Igbalaye, has been released this afternoon, and the investigation is still ongoing.” This indicates that police efforts to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrests and the allegations of vote-buying will continue in the coming days.
This unfolding story highlights the serious nature of electoral offenses and the commitment of the police to uphold democratic processes in Osun State. As developments arise, it is crucial for the public to remain informed about the implications of this case on the upcoming elections and the broader political landscape within the state.
