Ganduje: Obi-Kwankwaso ticket ‘dead on arrival’ in Kano.

Abdullahi Ganduje, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-governor of Kano State, has strongly rejected the presidential candidacy of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso representing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Ganduje asserted that their ticket will not garner support in Kano during the upcoming 2027 general election.

In a statement to the press on Tuesday, Ganduje indicated that the duo lacks the political backing and governance experience necessary to appeal to voters in Kano. “I don’t think Peter Obi and Kwankwaso’s ticket will succeed in Kano. It will not succeed. In fact, it is dead on arrival,” he stated.

He raised concerns about Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State, questioning his achievements and legacy. “What did he do as a governor? What legacy did he leave as a governor?” Ganduje asked, highlighting a lack of significant leadership roles beyond his governorship that would suggest Obi can effectively manage Nigeria.

Ganduje also critiqued Kwankwaso’s political history, pointing out that he failed to secure two consecutive terms as governor of Kano State, unlike his predecessors. “Kwankwaso too, he was a governor of Kano State. He was not able to be a governor back-to-back,” he noted, referencing the successful terms of previous governors Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and himself.

Additionally, Ganduje questioned the legacy Kwankwaso has left in Kano, arguing it does not persuade the public that he would be an effective vice president. “What legacy specifically can you say that he has left in Kano that will convince the people of Kano… that he will be a successful vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?” he asked.

The former APC chairman’s remarks underscore his belief that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket is unlikely to resonate with the electorate in Kano.
