Davido Responds to Erigga’s Social Media Post

According to a report by Vanguard on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Nigerian music star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has responded forcefully to a social media post by rapper Erigga concerning musicians who built successful careers without financial backing from wealthy families. The exchange has drawn attention online because it touches on the broader debate over privilege, personal effort, and whether an artiste’s family background should influence how the public evaluates their achievements.

The controversy started after Erigga, whose real name is Erhiga Agarivbie, shared a message on X recognizing musicians who did not grow up with financial advantages and instead had to work persistently to earn their income and establish themselves in the competitive music industry.Erigga wrote, “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.

”Although Erigga did not identify or directly refer to any particular musician, his statement quickly generated considerable discussion among social media users. Some interpreted the message as an indirect comment about artistes who were born into affluent families and may have had greater access to resources, connections, and opportunities at the beginning of their careers.Davido later joined the conversation and presented a different perspective. The Afrobeats superstar argued that being born into a wealthy family should not automatically disqualify an artiste from receiving credit for the effort, discipline, and determination required to achieve success. In his view, family wealth and personal hard work can exist at the same time, and an artiste’s background should not erase the work involved in building a career.Quoting Erigga’s post, Davido said, “No be we say make your pops no guard o.

Shoutout to those who were born into financial privilege but still put in the effort, remained committed to their craft and worked their way to the top.”The singer later intensified his criticism of Erigga’s statement, dismissing it as “useless motivation” and referring to the rapper as an “imbecile.

”Davido also suggested that he might eventually leave music to focus more fully on his other businesses and financial ventures. He said he would soon step aside from music and allow others to continue while he pursued his ambition of making billions. He further challenged the idea that people truly want to live in poverty, asking, “Deep down, who like poverty?”The exchange has prompted mixed reactions across social media.

Some users agreed with Erigga’s decision to recognize artistes who built successful careers without family wealth, while others supported Davido’s argument that financial privilege does not automatically diminish a person’s hard work, dedication or achievements.
