Spain’s Lamine Yamal may miss the rest of the season, raising concerns about his participation in this summer’s World Cup.
On Wednesday, April 22, Yamal netted his 16th La Liga goal from the penalty spot, securing a 1-0 victory for Barcelona against Celta Vigo at Camp Nou, extending their lead over Real Madrid to nine points with just six matches left.
However, his celebration was cut short as he grabbed his hamstring after the goal, raising concerns about his fitness. This injury could sideline him for the upcoming El Clásico, prompting Barça coach Hansi Flick to address the situation post-game.
The German commented, “It looks like there’s an injury, but we’ll have to see how long he’ll be sidelined. As a coach, it’s all about managing these situations.
“It’s unfortunate for Lamine, but I’m also considering Raphinha, Bernal, and Christensen. Our focus now is on Getafe. I’m not upset; there’s just a lot on my mind. We’ve really fought hard.”
Marca reports that Yamal’s participation in the World Cup is uncertain after a hamstring tear could sideline him for the rest of the season. This poses a setback for Spain as they aim to build on their Euro 2024 success. However, Barcelona has yet to confirm the severity of his injury.
“We’re all hoping Yamal’s injury isn’t serious,” Pedri shared with Movistar Plus. “We’ll have to wait for the medical tests tomorrow, but I’m optimistic—he’s young and will likely bounce back quickly. Today’s win was crucial for staying nine points clear at the top, especially against such a tough opponent.”
Further tests on Yamal are set for today, April 23, as Barcelona prepares for their match against Getafe on April 25.
