Former England striker Wayne Rooney has voiced his dissatisfaction with FIFA regarding the protracted halftime intermission during the concluding match of the 2026 World Cup.

This highly anticipated encounter unfolded on Sunday in New Jersey, featuring Argentina and Spain. The first half concluded without a goal, characterized by Spain’s commanding control, yet they failed to convert that dominance into scoring opportunities.

The halftime entertainment spectacle extended to nearly 30 minutes, a duration considerably longer than the standard 15 minutes stipulated by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) regulations.

The show featured a dazzling lineup of prominent artists, including Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Justin Bieber, and Burna Boy. Rooney, reflecting on the performances, stated, as reported by Utd Report, “My favourite bit of the halftime show was when it finished. … I like all of those artists, but I thought it was crap.”

The halftime event was further enhanced by appearances from Brazilian football legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, along with actor Jason Sudeikis, recognized for his role in the popular series “Ted Lasso.” In addition, the beloved Muppets characters Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy graced the stage, as highlighted by Yahoo Sports.

Furthermore, the kickoff for the 2026 final was delayed by six minutes, attributed to performances by musicians Robbie Williams and Jennifer Hudson, as well as speeches delivered by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and announcers Michael Buffer and Bruce Buffer.
