According to the Mailonline, a quiet but telling shift unfolded this weekend at one of America’s most important military hubs in the Gulf.
US officials confirmed that hundreds of personnel have been relocated from a major base in Qatar as tensions with Iran intensify and President Donald Trump weighs his next move. While officials did not name the installation, Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the Middle East, is widely understood to be central to American operations in the region.
The repositioning comes as Washington’s standoff with Tehran deepens. Indirect nuclear talks in Geneva last week ended without a breakthrough, and Trump has openly suggested that military force remains an option. Asked Friday whether he was considering a strike, the president replied that he was “considering” it.
Behind the scenes, the US presence in the region has grown markedly. According to reports, some 35,000 troops are now stationed across the Middle East. The USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group has joined the USS Abraham Lincoln, alongside fighter jets, cargo aircraft and additional air defenses. Satellite imagery has shown dozens of aircraft positioned at bases in Qatar and Jordan.
The markets are watching just as closely as the militaries. Brent crude prices have climbed in recent days, a reminder that Iran, while producing less than three percent of global oil, sits astride the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
In Washington, the debate is no less intense. Senator Lindsey Graham urged Trump to act. “I understand concerns about major military operations in the Middle East given past entanglements,” he said. “However, the voices who counsel against getting entangled seem to ignore the consequences of letting evil go unchecked.”
Still, Graham acknowledged hesitation within the administration, noting those cautioning restraint are “getting louder,” and adding, “Time will tell as to how this plays out.”
For now, diplomacy continues, but under the unmistakable shadow of preparation. See_More…
