An American Airlines plane landed Monday at Miami International Airport with bullet impacts on one of its wings, after a flight from Colombia, according to several reports relayed by specialized aviation media.
Flight AA923, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, was coming from Colombia when it landed without incident in Miami. It was only during the routine technical inspection after landing that technicians discovered several perforations on the right aileron of the aircraft.
This moving part located at the rear of the wing plays an essential role in the lateral balance of the aircraft. Despite this damage, the aircraft was able to complete its flight and landing normally, without any incident being reported by the crew or passengers.
The American aeronautical authorities and the company have opened an investigation to determine when the impacts were caused and whether they came from shots fired on the ground or in flight.
Incidents involving shootings at civilian aircraft remain extremely rare but can occur in certain areas where criminal activity or security tensions are reported. Airlines systematically carry out detailed inspections after each flight to detect any structural damage that may affect the safety of the aircraft.
