Tinubu Is Surrounded By Kakistrocrats Who Dominate The Presidency And Will Continue To Undermine Him—Ndume

According to a report published by The Sun, on Thursday August 27, 2026, former Senate Leader and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Senator Ali Ndume voiced concerns about the caliber of some officials serving in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He argued that certain people operating close to the president may be contributing to controversies surrounding the federal government and could be affecting the administration’s public image and overall credibility.

Ndume made the remarks during an interview referenced by The Sun on Thursday, August 27, 2026. His comments came while he was discussing recent developments within the federal government, including the way sensitive responsibilities are being handled and the effectiveness of the administration’s internal oversight and accountability mechanisms. The Borno South senator used the term “kakistrocrats” to characterize officials he considers unsuitable, ineffective, or inadequately qualified for the positions they hold.

He alleged that some of these individuals have gained substantial influence within the presidency, allowing them to shape decisions or public perceptions in ways that may be harmful to the government. In his view, the issue is not limited to individual appointments but also concerns the broader consequences of placing the wrong people in positions of authority.

Ndume said he had previously warned about the competence of certain government officials and highlighted the risks associated with assigning inexperienced or ineffective individuals to sensitive roles. He suggested that the controversies emerging in recent months had reinforced his earlier position and demonstrated the need for the administration to examine more closely the qualifications, performance, and conduct of those entrusted with important responsibilities.

He maintained that stronger attention to personnel quality and internal supervision would help the government respond more effectively to criticism and reduce avoidable disputes. The senator pointed specifically to the controversy surrounding an alleged fake government agency, saying the incident revealed serious shortcomings in supervision, accountability and the systems responsible for monitoring public institutions.

Ndume questioned how an organization allegedly operating without the required authorization could have continued functioning for such a long period without being identified by the relevant government bodies. He said effective oversight mechanisms should have detected the irregularities connected to the alleged agency much earlier, allowing authorities to intervene before the matter escalated into a national embarrassment.

Although he criticized the apparent failure of the monitoring systems, Ndume recognized President Tinubu’s response to the controversy, especially his directive for security agencies to investigate the allegations and establish what had occurred. He also praised the president’s order for the arrest of Nwabueze George, who was reportedly connected to the alleged operation of the organization under investigation.

In Ndume’s view, the president’s decision to take action was encouraging and demonstrated a willingness to address the issue.

However, he maintained that stronger internal supervision, clearer accountability and more consistent institutional checks would be needed to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.“Already, I’ve been vindicated on that, as to saying that my concern is that the president has so many kakistrocrats that dominate the presidency, they will continue to mess him up,” Ndume said.
