Nigerian author and democracy activist Abdul Oroh discussed his opinions on voting trends and election results in Nigeria during an interview with Edmund Obilo on the State Affairs program.
He discussed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election performance, pointing out differences in support in a number of states.
He also mentioned the late former president Muhammadu Buhari’s political influence, particularly in the North-West.
“Tinubu came second in about 19 states,” stated Oroh. The fact that he failed to win Lagos, none of the main North-West states except Jigawa, and even Katsina State, the home of his predecessor Buhari.
Such results, he continued, demonstrate the complexity of Nigeria’s electoral scene, where party structures, political history, and regional affiliations all play important roles.
He contends that voters weigh a variety of factors while making decisions, hence no one element alone affects electoral success.
