Renowned Nigerian musical artist, Flavour, has openly shared a deeply personal account of a challenging period in his life characterized by an overwhelming struggle with compulsive masturbation. He disclosed these intimate details during a candid live session on the social media platform TikTok, engaging in conversation with his close friends.
The genesis of this habit, according to Flavour’s narrative, can be traced back to the period following his first sexual experience. He explained that after losing his virginity, he subsequently lost contact with the individual involved.
This sudden absence of a regular sexual partner, he elaborated, led him to turn to masturbation as a coping mechanism. He further revealed that his immersion into this habit was significantly amplified after a friend introduced him to Mapouka dance videos originating from Congo, which, in his words, contributed to his developing addiction. The singer detailed the profound impact this addiction had on his emotional and social well-being, reaching a point where he felt a pervasive sense of shame. This shame, he confessed, made it difficult for him to engage in normal social interactions with his peers, even during seemingly mundane activities such as watching football matches with friends. The internal conflict and embarrassment were palpable, affecting his confidence and comfort in everyday situations.
In his quest for relief, Flavour recounted an initial attempt to seek spiritual guidance. He approached his mother’s pastor, who presented himself as an expert in guidance and counseling. The pastor’s prescribed remedy involved a rigorous 21-day fast accompanied by specific prayer points. However, Flavour expressed that despite these spiritual efforts, the compulsive behavior unfortunately resurfaced within a mere few days, leaving him disheartened.Ultimately, Flavour found solace and a path towards recovery through a conversation with a fellow musician, a bassist with whom he collaborated.
This bassist, upon hearing Flavour’s struggle, offered a different perspective, suggesting that the root of the issue might be tied to his youth and the absence of regular sexual activity. In a decisive move, the bassist reportedly facilitated an encounter for Flavour by taking him to a brothel and arranging for him to engage in sexual activity with a woman there. Following this experience, Flavour admitted to developing a new pattern of behavior, wherein he began allocating funds earned from his musical performances to visit brothels on a weekly basis. He attributed this practice as the instrumental factor in helping him to successfully overcome his compulsive masturbation addiction, marking a significant turning point in his life.
