In a lively turn of events, Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, took a strong stand against claims circulating in the media. Reports have suggested that Governor Adeleke turned down multiple invitations from President Bola Tinubu, but Rasheed has come forward to clarify the situation, asserting that these allegations are not only misleading but also unfounded.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Rasheed firmly rebutted these accusations, pinning the blame on certain political figures, specifically pointing a finger at the Minister for Marine Development and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, along with the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Rasheed, these entities actively hindered Governor Adeleke from engaging with the President, contradicting assertions made by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District. Fadahunsi had claimed in a recent interview that Governor Adeleke had repeatedly rejected invitations to meet with President Tinubu in 2025, stirring controversy and speculation.

Rasheed did not hold back in critiquing the senator’s comments, labeling them as “a failed, weak attempt to rewrite history that is still very fresh in the minds of Nigerians and the people of Osun.” This statement not only aims to clarify the governor’s stance but also to remind the public of the significant events that have transpired, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in political discourse.

Highlighting a poignant moment, Rasheed noted that Governor Adeleke had, in fact, met with President Tinubu, accompanied by his family. However, he underlined that their subsequent interactions were thwarted due to political maneuvering by the Minister. Rasheed passionately maintained that Governor Adeleke remains unfazed by such political distractions and is committed to his role as a leader.

“Governor Adeleke responded to the invitation of Mr. President wholeheartedly. He met the President alongside his family members, which highlights the importance of this engagement. However, regrettably, the process was interrupted by Minister Gboyega Oyetola. The public is well aware of these developments, and it is unacceptable for Senator Fadahunsi to attempt to twist or falsify these facts,” Rasheed asserted.

Furthermore, the spokesperson emphasized that despite any obstacles, the governor has been proactive in endorsing President Tinubu’s re-election campaign, first while he was a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and now as part of the Accord party. Rasheed pointed out that Governor Adeleke has articulated clear and compelling reasons for this endorsement, illustrating his ongoing commitment to the development of Osun State.

“The personal attacks aimed at Governor Adeleke by Senator Fadahunsi are irrelevant and will not derail his mission. Daily, the governor receives endorsements from diverse sectors of Osun society, signifying the deep appreciation residents and indigenes have for his exceptional leadership,” he continued, adding a note of optimism and resilience.

As Governor Adeleke prepares for the forthcoming election on August 15, he remains confident and stands tall, buoyed by both divine grace and the strong support of the people. Rasheed concluded with a powerful assertion: “No amount of historical falsification can alter reality. From the presidency to the grassroots of Osun society, the governor is recognized as a true agent of development and a man of the people, beloved by those he serves.”
