On March 27, Nigeria will introduce the much-awaited National Single Window (NSW) platform, which Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila called a “monumental” step in changing the nation’s trade ecology.
During a stakeholders’ meeting at the State House in Abuja, which was attended by ministers, agency heads, and important government officials, Gbajabiamila made the revelation.
The goal of the National Single Window platform is to facilitate and streamline import and export transactions throughout Nigeria.
Gbajabiamila clarified that the program, which was first presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu almost two years ago, is a significant fiscal reform intended to boost Nigeria’s competitiveness internationally and increase trade efficiency.
Additionally, he praised the Nigeria Revenue Service, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and other collaborating agencies for their professionalism and commitment to the project’s advancement.
In April 2024, President Tinubu established a committee for the National Single Window project and mandated that the digital commerce platform be fully functional by the first quarter of 2026.
Through the platform, exporters and importers will be able to execute paperwork and clear items more quickly.
The project is regarded as a premier digital trade facilitation initiative with the goal of enhancing Nigeria’s standing in international commerce and drawing in investment.
Tola Fakolade, the National Single Window project coordinator, called on government organizations to step up their support in the last weeks leading up to the formal debut.
Pilot testing is planned prior to the launch, and user training is now underway nationwide.
In order to expedite trade procedures and minimize administrative delays, Fakolade pointed out that documents submitted via the system will be shared with pertinent agencies without duplication.
Following the meeting, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment was tasked with spearheading the last stage of execution to guarantee a smooth rollout on March 27.
Despite possible implementation difficulties, President Tinubu has already reiterated his commitment to guaranteeing the National Single Window initiative’s success.
The platform’s introduction is anticipated to boost Nigeria’s standing in international trade and represent a significant turning point in the country’s efforts to regulate digital trade.
