Davido won’t apologize to Monday Okpobolo after sharing his WAEC results to shed light on Edo State’s governor. The singer showed compassion for Okpobolo’s kids.

Renowned Nigerian musician, Davido, has unequivocally stated his refusal to offer an apology to the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, following a recent and public altercation that unfolded on social media platforms. The dispute, which has garnered significant attention, ignited during the heated period of election campaigns. Governor Okpebholo initiated the public exchange by making disparaging remarks about the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, who is also Davido’s uncle. Okpebholo’s comments specifically targeted Adeleke’s perceived tendency to dance excessively, suggesting it detracted from his ability to govern effectively.

In a swift and pointed response, Davido took to social media to retaliate. He shared what he presented as an official copy of Okpebholo’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, highlighting a number of ‘D7’ grades. Beyond merely questioning the academic record, Davido also raised doubts about the governor’s own capacity for communication, implying that Okpebholo might not be the one composing his social media posts.

Despite facing considerable criticism from various quarters, with some accusing him of showing disrespect to an elder and a public official, Davido has remained resolute. During a recent interview, he reiterated his firm stance, emphatically declaring his intention not to apologize. He justified his actions by stating that he believed he was merely informing the electorate about the academic credentials of their chosen governor. Davido elaborated on his perspective, saying, “I am not going to apologise. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was only letting the people of the state know the kind of results their governor has.” He further defended his actions by pointing out the alleged irregularities in the election process, suggesting that Okpebholo had interfered in another state’s election rather than focusing on his own constituents. He questioned the governor’s claim of victory, stating, “You left your state, came to another state to rig and then you start talking that my Uncle is a dancer, he is not a serious….the road to your government house is not done…First of all, you were not even elected, you were selected…you didn’t win those votes. You do not know what it is to win an election…I feel so bad for his kids because they will be like ‘see what my daddy is doing’ You are abusing a sitting governor in his own state….”
