Ohaegbu Sets the Record Straight: No N10M Request from Peter Obi!

In a recent report published by DAILY POST on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, political figure Obunike Ohaegbu, who is vying for a position in the House of Representatives as a representative of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has firmly denied allegations that he accused Peter Obi of accepting monetary bribes from other aspirants during the party’s primary elections.

The swirling controversy began when Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made claims during a televised interview. Okonkwo alleged that not only Obi but also certain leaders within the NDC in the South-East were complicit in accepting bribes from candidates hoping to secure their positions. He asserted that Ohaegbu had confided in him about candidates being defrauded during the primary election festivities.

In response to these serious accusations, Ohaegbu took to the media to clarify the situation, expressing his frustration over what he termed a severe misrepresentation of a broadcast message he initially circulated to party members. He emphasized that the primary aim of his communication was to urge his colleagues to disregard unfounded rumors suggesting that certain individuals had been granted automatic tickets, a practice carried out to favor select candidates.

Ohaegbu revealed that after Okonkwo reached out to him following the dissemination of the message, he never once insinuated that Obi was involved in any malfeasance. He categorically denied any discussion concerning monetary transactions involving the former governor of Anambra State.

In a further assertion of transparency, Ohaegbu clarified that Peter Obi had never solicited a sum of N10 million from him, explaining instead that this amount was an official nomination fee which he duly paid into the NDC’s bank account as part of the required process for candidacy.

He elaborated on the nature of his discussions surrounding this payment, noting that his interactions were limited to the party’s national secretary. Ohaegbu accused this individual of previously assuring him that he would receive an automatic ticket before later advising him to pursue his concerns through the proper party channels.

Taking a serious stance on these matters, Ohaegbu has begun legal action against the NDC, seeking redress over issues that arose during the primary election process.

Moreover, he has fiercely rejected any further claims that seek to associate him with allegations that Obi and other party leaders manipulated the election results during the primaries. Despite expressing his apprehensions regarding the conduct of the primaries, he reiterated his position that he has never implicated Peter Obi in demands for money or any fraudulent activities.

Ohaegbu’s passionate defense underscores the complex and often contentious nature of political dynamics in Nigeria, where rumors and accusations can swiftly escalate, changing the narrative of a candidate’s campaign. As this story develops, the eye of the public will undoubtedly remain on Ohaegbu as he navigates these turbulent waters in his pursuit of political office.
