Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has identified Matheus Cunha as the team’s most improved player this season, applauding the Brazilian forward’s growth after a sluggish start to life at Old Trafford, according to reports from Metro on March 30, 2026.
After signing a £62.5 million contract to join Manchester United from Wolves, Cunha was anticipated to have an instant impact. It took the 24-year-old nine games to open his account, though, since he first had trouble finding his groove. But since then, he has developed into a vital member of the club, scoring six more goals and putting up a number of outstanding displays.
Cunha’s development, in Evra’s opinion, demonstrates both his caliber and his capacity to adjust to new supervision. Cunha’s arrival was overseen by former manager Ruben Amorim, but the forward has started to thrive under interim manager Michael Carrick.
Speaking as part of DHL Express’s “Delivering Dreams” campaign, Evra said that while a number of recent additions have shown promise, Cunha is the most improved.
“It’s difficult to determine which player has developed the most this season because everyone is working hard, but I would definitely choose Matheus Cunha,” Evra stated.
The Frenchman also emphasized the benefits of United’s recent additions, such as Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo, who have both made distinct contributions. But Cunha’s development from a slow beginning to a dependable attacking option has been particularly noteworthy.
In addition to being one of the first names on the squad sheet, Cunha has produced crucial moments, such as a thrilling late victory against Arsenal earlier in the season. He is always a threat in the last third thanks to his combination of strength, speed, and technical skill.
“I am particularly thrilled with the new acquisitions, including Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha,” Evra continued. They provide the team something unique. Cunha is muscular and quick when playing up front, and he possesses excellent vision and talent.
In addition to Cunha, Evra commended Patrick Dorgu’s growth. Dorgu struggled at first in a wing-back position but has since adjusted effectively to a more advanced role. Dorgu is better suited to playing farther forward because of his attacking skills, according to Evra.
Off the field, Evra has assisted DHL Express in delivering a professional football pitch to Mae Suek, a remote Thai community. In addition to giving young players access to improved facilities, the initiative seeks to inspire them.
