Manchester United is actively contemplating the significant prospect of parting ways with Marcus Rashford, not only to ease the burden of his substantial salary but also to allow space for new talent to grace the hallowed grounds of Old Trafford. As the Red Devils ramp up their efforts in the summer transfer window, manager Michael Carrick is diligently focused on constructing a formidable squad capable of contending on multiple fronts this season.
Thus far, United has invested around £83 million, strategically reshaping their roster while simultaneously benefiting from the departure of several high-earning players. Notably, the exit of Jadon Sancho as a free agent and the transfer of Casemiro to Inter Miami have resulted in considerable financial relief, creating vital wiggle room in the club’s budget for new acquisitions.

In a notable twist, the club has finalized a £35 million deal for former Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans, who has signed a five-year contract with hopes of bolstering United’s midfield prowess. On top of that, talented midfielder Andrey Santos has joined the ranks from Chelsea for an initial £48 million, with an additional £2 million in performance-related add-ons, further augmenting the team’s central options.

But the transfer activity doesn’t stop there. The arrivals of Karl Darlow, Kit Margetson, and Tynan Thompson reflect Carrick’s intent to deepen squad flexibility. Nevertheless, if further reinforcements are to arrive, some existing players, including Rashford, are in jeopardy of leaving the club, sparking discussions around his uncertain future.
In addition to Rashford’s situation, young forward Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly attracting interest from Juventus, though his potential move is expected to be on a temporary basis. Carrick, keen on maintaining adequate squad depth for both domestic and European competitions, understands that Zirkzee’s departure could necessitate additional signings. Given that the talented Dutchman has recently struggled for playing time, especially with Benjamin Sesko emerging as a key attacking figure, his loan to Juventus seems increasingly plausible.
As discussions around Zirkzee swirl, the prospect of a free agent signing looms large on United’s horizon. Dusan Vlahovic, who has made headlines for his impressive goal tally at Juventus prior to his exit, is among those linked to Old Trafford. The 26-year-old Serbian, having netted an impressive total of 68 goals in 168 appearances for Juve and 140 in club football overall, is a striker well-equipped to provide valuable support to Sesko. His potential signing would not only enhance the team’s attacking options but also illustrate Carrick’s confidence in Sesko’s development, fostering a competitive yet supportive environment for the young forward.

Bringing in a player like Vlahovic would grant Carrick the flexibility to rotate his strikers throughout a grueling season, which is crucial for sustaining squad fitness and performance levels during a demanding campaign.
Speaking of squad dynamics, Rashford’s status continues to be a hot topic among fans and pundits alike. Recent reports indicate he is expected to join his teammates for pre-season training, especially after a high-profile potential transfer to Barcelona fell through. Interest from clubs, including Turkish side Fenerbahce, has sparked speculation about his future, yet the situation appears foggy as Rashford himself may be reluctant to move to Turkey. Additionally, Tottenham’s reported interest adds another layer of complexity as the transfer window remains open for several more weeks, leaving the door ajar for a potential exit.

Should Rashford ultimately decide to part ways with the club, the name Iliman Ndiaye has emerged as a strong candidate to step into his shoes. The 26-year-old winger boasts a rich Premier League background with 20 goal contributions across 70 appearances for Everton and is heavily linked with a move to United. Reports suggest that Everton is holding out for a fee of around £70 million, with other suitors, including Al-Hilal from the Saudi Pro League, circling overhead.
Meanwhile, with Sesko showing promise as the primary striker, the addition of Vlahovic could allow United to compete effectively on multiple fronts. As options widen on the wing, Amad and Bryan Mbeumo are well-equipped to occupy the right flank, with Mbeumo likely earning the starting role. On the left, the fluidity created by bringing in Ndiaye would seamlessly integrate into the squad, while Patrick Dorgu is also a viable option, having impressed in his previous outings.

In the central attacking position within Carrick’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, the ever-reliable Bruno Fernandes will remain a cornerstone, continuing his role as the playmaker and club captain. As the clock ticks down on the transfer window, Manchester United is certainly set for an eventful summer, and the decisions made in the coming weeks could shape the future trajectory of this historic club.
