Insecurity is keeping my husband up until 3am, says Tinubu’s wife.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the esteemed First Lady of Nigeria, has once again reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Federal Government to fortifying national security and dismantling the pervasive criminal syndicates that threaten safety across the nation. This assertive declaration came during an engaging dialogue with traditional rulers in Ekiti State, held on Saturday at the historic Jibowu Hall, located within the Government House in Ado-Ekiti, as part of her insightful one-day working visit to the region.

In her address, Senator Tinubu emphasized that the current administration is not only intensifying domestic security measures but is also enhancing international collaborations aimed at eradicating rampant issues such as kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes that plague various areas of the country. “We are not alone in this battle,” she highlighted, noting that nations like the United States and other developed countries are extending their support in Nigeria’s fight against these menacing threats. She poignantly remarked, “Some of those terrorizing us are not even Nigerians. No matter the challenges we face, I firmly believe that we shall overcome; Nigeria is far too great to be cowed into submission.”

Senator Tinubu reaffirmed that President Tinubu is deeply immersed in efforts to restore peace and stability across the federation. Highlighting the tireless dedication of the President, she stated, “Our security operations are relentless, occurring around the clock without respite. We don’t distinguish between Mondays and Sundays in this critical endeavor. The President often finds himself awake until the early hours, sometimes even as late as 3:00 AM, tirelessly working to address these issues, and we are blessed to see the support of the Almighty in this venture.”

Emphasizing the importance of hope and collective effort, she encouraged all Nigerians to remain steadfast in their hope and continue to pray for peace and security. Together, she asserted, the Nigerian populace can confront and overcome the pressing security challenges that the country faces.

Senator Tinubu also took the opportunity to showcase some inspiring initiatives under the Renewed Hope Initiative that are making a tangible difference in Ekiti State. This includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art ICT centre at Ekiti State University, as well as an impressive allocation of scholarships amounting to over N200 million for deserving students. In a remarkable effort to uplift local communities, approximately 2,000 traders have benefited significantly from ₦50,000 grants each, while elderly citizens and individuals living with disabilities are receiving much-needed support through various empowerment programmes.

In a compelling response, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, took the opportunity to call for urgent reforms within Nigeria’s security architecture. He passionately urged the Federal Government to strengthen existing laws against kidnapping and expeditiously accelerate the establishment of state police forces, arguing that decentralizing policing would greatly enhance security responses across the nation. “The bill for the creation of state police should be fast-tracked,” the monarch declared, expressing unwavering confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and emphasizing the traditional institutions’ commitment to supporting this crucial initiative for a safer Nigeria.

As the nation grapples with the challenges of security, the collaboration between government initiatives and traditional leadership holds promise for a more secure future, driving hope and renewal throughout the land.
