Ice Prince Responds to Critics: ‘I Performed at APC National Convention Thanks to My Uncle!’

Nigerian rapper and singer Ice Prince has recently stepped into the spotlight to respond to the wave of criticism directed at him following his performance at the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention. The event, which gathered attention for various reasons, saw Ice Prince take the stage, only to face a barrage of backlash from the public. Critics were quick to label him as overly partisan, particularly in light of the numerous pressing issues currently confronting the nation.

During a candid discussion on the latest episode of the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince provided insights into his decision to accept the performance opportunity—an opportunity that many viewed as contentious given the political climate. He clarified that his connection to the event wasn’t merely a professional engagement but deeply personal. The reason he agreed to perform, he explained, was that he was approached by someone very close to him—his uncle.

Ice Prince revealed that his uncle, Nentawe Yilwatda, serves as the APC National Chairman. He emphasized the familial bond behind his participation, sharing, “Who booked me for that event? My uncle – Nentawe Yilwatda who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle.” This revelation sheds light on the complexities of his decision, illustrating that it wasn’t solely about politics or show business but a commitment to family ties.

In an era where the intersection of entertainment and politics is under constant scrutiny, Ice Prince’s explanation serves to humanize the situation, reminding fans and critics alike that personal connections often drive our decisions. His appearance at the APC convention thus becomes an intricate tapestry of loyalty, familial relationships, and the challenges faced in the public eye. While the debate around his participation continues, Ice Prince remains steadfast in his defense, highlighting that his motivations are rooted in deep family loyalty rather than political ambition.
