I was gone. When you’re married and using drugs, you know how it is—I lost everything. —Walter

Walter, a former victim of drug abuse who later benefited from a comprehensive rehabilitation program organized by the Youth Rescue International Development Organization (YRIDO), has spoken candidly about the devastating effect addiction had on his personal life. He explained that his dependence on drugs brought his marriage to the brink of collapse and gradually severed his relationships with relatives and friends.

In a video broadcast by SYMFONI TV on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Walter said his addiction became so serious that it affected not only him but also his wife and children. As his behavior worsened, his brothers, sisters and friends reportedly withdrew from him, leaving him increasingly isolated and without meaningful support. He recalled regularly sneaking out of the house to use drugs and returning to discover that his wife had locked the door.

According to Walter, repeated incidents of this kind created intense conflict in the home, brought his marriage close to divorce and left him with little to show for his life. His account illustrates how addiction can damage trust, disrupt family life and gradually strip a person of important relationships and stability.Walter said his circumstances began to change after he learned about YRIDO and enrolled in its rehabilitation program. He credited God and the organization with helping him overcome his addiction, regain direction and begin rebuilding his life. Here’s what he said, “I was really gone before.

You know, when you’re married and you do drugs, you know what it is. My wife and me almost got divorced while I was doing drugs. Because of drugs, I lost everything. My brothers, my sisters, everybody deserted me. Friends deserted me. In fact, I was nothing to write home about. I was sleeping in the bunk most nights.

My wife and my kids and I will be sleeping. I’ll just wake up. I would quietly slip out, but by the time I returned, she had already locked the door. I would continue knocking, waiting outside and hoping she would let me in.

I could not shout because I did not want anyone nearby to hear or become aware of what was happening. Later, I learned about the organization Youth Rescue International Development Organization. Today, through the help of God Almighty, my life has been transformed, and I am no longer living as I once did.”YOU CAN WATCH THE VIDEO FROM (5:58 – 6:28)
