Ethan Nwaneri’s Bold Move Signals a Major Shift at Arsenal

According to FootballTransfers in a report published on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has made an unexpected decision that could have a major impact on the club’s plans before the summer transfer deadline. The 19-year-old has reportedly decided that he wants to remain at Arsenal, despite expectations that he could leave the club before the window closes.

Mikel Arteta had previously indicated that it would be difficult to justify keeping Nwaneri at the Emirates if the youngster was not going to receive enough regular first-team football. Despite performing well during pre-season, Nwaneri has not yet played in a competitive fixture this campaign, although he was included on the bench for Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Coventry.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has previously stated that Nwaneri is expected to leave Arsenal, but discussions with interested clubs have so far failed to produce an agreement.Several teams, including RB Leipzig, AC Milan and Galatasaray, have reportedly shown an interest in the midfielder.

However, a potential move has been complicated by various logistical issues, as well as Nwaneri’s apparent reluctance to leave England. His previous loan spell at Marseille was reportedly a difficult experience, making another move abroad less appealing to the young midfielder.Sky Sports has reported that Nwaneri would prefer to remain in the Premier League, potentially joining another club, unless a particularly attractive opportunity comes from elsewhere in the top flight. For now, Nwaneri’s position appears straightforward: he would rather stay at Arsenal unless a convincing offer arrives.

Arsenal, however, are also maintaining a firm position regarding his future. The Gunners are reportedly willing to consider offers only if they involve a permanent transfer or a loan agreement that includes an obligation for the player to be purchased at the end of the spell.

A deal of that nature could give Arsenal additional financial flexibility, particularly after the club recently completed the sale of Gabriel Martinelli, which added further funds to their transfer budget.Arsenal are believed to value Nwaneri at approximately €60 million, although a more realistic transfer fee could be closer to €45 million.

The club appears increasingly open to selling the midfielder, with Bournemouth and Newcastle United emerging as two potential destinations. Liverpool have also been mentioned in connection with Nwaneri, although a move to Anfield appears less likely because of the club’s own transfer situation.According to data from SciSports, Newcastle could represent an especially suitable destination for Nwaneri. The club’s emphasis on developing young players would fit his profile, while his qualities could also suit their 4-2-3-1 formation under manager Matthias Jaissle.

Newcastle’s Club Fit score of 89 out of 100 further highlights how well Nwaneri could potentially adapt to the team. The Magpies are also reportedly considering adding another versatile midfielder, with Bilal El Khannouss from Stuttgart among the players linked with a possible move.

Although Nwaneri’s estimated market value is around €35 million, his age, potential and long-term contract with Arsenal could justify a transfer fee in the region of €45 million.A departure therefore remains a possibility before the transfer window closes, but Nwaneri’s decision to stay could still change the situation. Any eventual move would represent a significant decision for both the player and Arsenal, with the right deal potentially proving beneficial for everyone involved.
