Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has alleged that the late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, ordered the imprisonment of three prominent Nigerians: Obasanjo himself, businessman and politician MKO Abiola, and General Shehu Yar’Adua.
According to Obasanjo, Abacha told certain individuals that none of the three men would leave prison alive. In a video shared by Advocacy For Good Governance, Obasanjo described what he said happened to each of them while they were detained. He alleged that Yar’Adua was injected with a virus in prison, while Abiola was given a poisonous substance mixed into his tea.
Obasanjo further stated that, in his own case, a doctor was instructed to inject him with a deadly substance, but he refused to allow the procedure to take place.Recounting the alleged threats, Obasanjo said: “Abacha told a number of people that three of us would not come out of prison alive: myself, MKO Abiola, and Shehu Yar’Adua.
What they did to Shehu Yar’Adua was obvious—they injected him with a virus. In MKO Abiola’s case, they gave him something in his tea. In my own case, they tried to inject me.”The relevant portion of the video can be viewed between 15:23 and 15:53.
