In an exciting turn of events that has caught the attention of many across Nigeria, prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has officially announced her resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to align herself with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). This significant development was shared via a heartfelt statement posted on her 𝕏 handle on Wednesday.

Yesufu, a well-known figure in the advocacy landscape, articulated that her decision to switch party allegiance stems from a deep commitment to support presidential aspirant, Peter Obi. Recognizing the pivotal moments ahead for Nigeria, she emphasized the importance of this transition in light of the nation’s future. Her passion and dedication were palpable as she expressed, “The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works.”

Initially, Yesufu’s commitment to Obi led her to join the ADC; however, she clarified that her move to the NDC is not merely a change of party but a reaffirmation of her dedication to the vision she shares with Obi. “When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honor the promise, I am joining the NDC,” she stated, highlighting her steadfast loyalty and sense of duty.

But that’s not all—Aisha Yesufu has exciting aspirations for her political future. She revealed her intention to run for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. “This time, I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she passionately declared, signaling her readiness to take on a more active and influential role in shaping the political landscape of Nigeria.

In her message, Yesufu acknowledged her previous role within the ADC, expressing gratitude to her colleagues and emphasizing that her departure was executed with care and integrity. She described her transition as a “clean” one and expressed her appreciation for the incredible individuals she had the fortune to collaborate with, all driven by a common goal of fostering a better Nigeria. “I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary at various levels,” she reflected.

Her experiences within the ADC, she noted, were “invaluable,” and she extended heartfelt thanks to her colleagues for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout her tenure. As Aisha Yesufu embarks on this new journey with the NDC, many are eager to see how her advocacy skills and passion will translate into her potential senatorial role—and how it may shape the future of Nigerian politics.
