A heartwarming and unexpected moment at a Nigerian wedding has captured widespread attention online after a lady recounted her emotional encounter with a physically disabled gentleman. The woman, whose experience has since gone viral on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), explained that she had invested considerable time and resources in preparing for the celebratory event, aiming to present herself in the most elegant manner possible. However, her meticulous preparations were overshadowed by an unforeseen interaction that ultimately brought her to tears.
Detailing her experience, the lady shared, “I attended a wedding this past Saturday. I was dressed to the absolute nines. My hair was meticulously styled, I wore a truly fashionable outfit, my nails were perfectly done, my lashes were expertly applied, and I had even purchased a brand-new pair of shoes and a stylish new handbag. With all this preparation, I arrived at the wedding, ready to enjoy the festivities.”
She continued, describing the pivotal moment: “While standing outside the reception hall, engaged in conversation with some of the other guests who were also wearing the traditional ‘aso-ebi’ attire, a gentleman who uses a wheelchair approached me. He politely expressed that he found me attractive. To avoid appearing rude, and recognizing our shared humanity, I decided to engage with him respectfully and listen to what he had to say.”
The lady admitted to being utterly taken aback when the man then conveyed his desire to marry her. She expressed her bewilderment, questioning why he had singled her out from the multitude of women present at the wedding.
“He then proceeded to tell me that he wanted to marry me,” she recounted. “My immediate thought was, ‘Out of all the ladies here, why me? What made you choose me?’ What added to my surprise was that I was even wearing my expensive 18-carat, 4.5-gram gold bracelet. I couldn’t fathom what I had done to warrant such a proposal, especially considering the presence of many other attractive young men at the wedding.”
The video documenting her account has since ignited a diverse range of responses from online users. While some have expressed empathy and understanding towards her surprise and emotional reaction, others have criticized her choice of words, suggesting that the man was simply expressing his genuine feelings in a respectful manner and that her response implied a degree of superficiality.
