Winning is not merely an objective; it is the sole imperative.
“This sentiment, often attributed to the esteemed American football coach Red Sanders, effectively encapsulated West Ham United’s imperative as they prepared for the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday.
The team entered the London Stadium with the understanding that securing a victory was essential. Whatever measures were necessary to ensure the acquisition of all three points, West Ham was committed to executing them.
Securing a win was the singular focus. And we succeeded.
Dinos Mavropanos and Taty Castellanos emerged as our key players, each contributing to a commanding 4-0 victory that elevated us out of the relegation zone.
With six more matches remaining in the season, this triumph does not mark the entirety of our goals, but on Friday night in East London, it was indeed our paramount objective.
Wolves commenced the match with a degree of intensity as the sun set over the London Stadium.
Early attempts by André and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde were unsuccessful, followed by Yerson Mosquera’s header that narrowly missed the far post.Amid these opportunities, the returning Crysencio Summerville squandered a chance, sending Matues Fernandes’ through ball over the crossbar from a challenging angle.
The two teams exchanged half-chances for the remainder of the half.
Bowen’s shot was directed too close to José Sá, while Kyle Walker-Peters successfully blocked a shot from Hugo Bueno. Taty’s attempt from the center circle also failed to beat Sá, resulting in a header that looped onto the roof of the Wolves’ net.
Adam Armstrong spun and fired over the target, Tomáš Souček curled a shot wide, and Mads Hermansen managed to catch Armstrong’s flicked header.
Both El Diouf Malick Diouf and Bowen had their shots blocked in succession.
The breakthrough occurred in the 42nd minute.
Bowen won a corner, delivered the ball, then collected it again from Fernandes.
After taking a touch, he crossed it into the box, where Mavropanos leapt high to send an unstoppable header into the far post.Pablo nearly doubled the lead just before half-time following a pass from Taty, but José Sá managed to keep the ball out at his near post.In the second half, Angel Gomes struck the post with a free-kick eight minutes in. Summerville attempted a lob from halfway, followed by Bowen’s own effort, a trademark curled shot with his left foot.
Wolves had two additional opportunities to equalize, but Angel Gomes curled a free-kick past the post, and Ladislav Krejčí headed wide.
Their chance to score had passed.
Taty scored two goals within a span of three minutes during the second half.
The Argentinian’s opening goal involved a precise one-two exchange with Pablo, culminating in a low finish past goalkeeper Sá.
His second goal came when he capitalized on a pass from Bowen, with his shot deflecting off André into the bottom left corner.
Following a commendable save by Hermansen to prevent an own goal from Diouf, West Ham extended their lead with a fourth.
Bowen’s corner was inadvertently flicked on by Krejčí, and Mavropanos delivered a powerful volley into the bottom corner.Substitute Adama Traoré had the opportunity to make it five by breaking free, but he lifted his shot wide. Nonetheless, this marked the first instance of scoring four goals in a Premier League match since October 2024.Victory was paramount, and we achieved it.
