According to Metro, former England captain Wayne Rooney has hinted that Thomas Tuchel may have already decided on one England international’s future, saying there might be “no way back” for the player before the World Cup.

The player in question was conspicuously left out of the most recent England national football team squad release, which prompted the remarks. For the final international camp prior to the competition, Tuchel assembled a larger-than-usual team, but the exclusion has generated a lot of discussion among both fans and commentators.
Rooney expressed shock at the player’s exclusion from a 35-man roster, calling it a “big surprise.” Rooney suggests that the player might not be in Tuchel’s long-term plans, suggesting that the problem might be more severe than a straightforward tactical choice.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, the player under consideration, has played a significant role for England in recent years. He has earned more than 30 caps since making his debut in 2018 and has been a key player in important competitions, such as Euro 2024. He has long been a frequent candidate for selection due to his technical prowess and international experience.
Alexander-Arnold has had a very prosperous career at the club level with Liverpool Football Club, where he has won numerous important titles, such as the Champions League and Premier League. Although his early years in Spain were marred by inconsistent play before more recent advancements, his recent transfer to Real Madrid signaled the beginning of a new chapter in his career.
Tuchel seems to be favoring alternative possibilities despite his qualifications, possibly putting tactical structure and defensive security ahead of attacking flair. Although Alexander-Arnold isn’t the best defender, Rooney admitted that most English players can’t match his skill with the ball.
Rooney said, “He’s as good on the ball as any player we’ve seen,” but he also emphasized that the contemporary game occasionally requires different qualities, especially in high-stakes international competitions.
Rooney’s remarks also brought attention to the potential that Tuchel is creating a particular squad dynamic, perhaps emphasizing cohesiveness and balance. The former striker said that choices like these can occasionally take into account factors other than form, such tactical discipline and team cohesion.
However, Tuchel has justified his choice, calling the omission a “tough call” and that he is still conscious of the player’s abilities. The England manager emphasized the competitive nature of selection at this point by explaining why he decided to continue with the players who are currently in the team.
