Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is going through a challenging time as a result of Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal’s departure.
Makinde and Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi state, were the only governors elected on the PDP platform after Lawal announced his retirement on Monday, March 9.
Speaking during the PDP board of trustees (BoT) enlarged meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Makinde characterized the incident as a difficult time for both the party and Nigerian democracy.
As leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, we are going through a difficult time. Nigerian democracy is facing difficulties at the moment, he added.
According to the governor, conversations with observers and political players indicate that the current political environment in the nation is unique.
He remarked, “I have been speaking with knowledgeable people who have been involved in this country’s political evolution, and none of them have seen a political landscape like what we are witnessing today.
“”I can only say that there are just the two of us left, but we don’t care.”According to Makinde, the party’s leaders need to be aware of how history would evaluate their conduct during that time.
“So, we must be aware of what history will record against or for us for this period, regardless of the role we want to play as individuals and as a party,” he stated.
“Hard times do not last,” he said, expressing hope that things would get better.”Joy comes in the morning, but weeping may endure for the night,” he continued.
