According to Football, Leandro Trossard has acknowledged that Arsenal cannot make excuses following their devastating loss to Bournemouth, but he maintains that they still have a tight grip on the title fight.London.
The Premier League battle is now completely open after the Gunners’ defeat at the Emirates, as Bournemouth continues their remarkable winning streak under Andoni Iraola.
Arsenal had just finished a gruelling schedule that included domestic cup duties and travel throughout Europe, while the visitors were more rested after a long vacation.
Although Trossard was aware of the physical cost, he declined to use it as an excuse. “We all know that it wasn’t good enough,” he remarked.
First and foremost, we must examine ourselves and continue. We are accustomed to playing more games than they have. We still needed to do better, so it’s not an excuse.
After their victory over Sporting CP in the middle of the week, travel issues also interfered with Arsenal’s preparations, necessitating a prolonged stay in Lisbon.
The Belgian forward was nevertheless adamant that at this point in the season, standards must continue to be high.
Deeper worries about squad disruption and exhaustion have been brought to light by the loss. In recent weeks, injuries to important players like Jurrien Timber, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard have disrupted rhythm and decreased attacking fluency.
The lack of cohesiveness has grown more apparent as manager Mikel Arteta has been compelled to make frequent changes. Arsenal hasn’t been able to generate opportunities with the same intensity that characterised their previous season.
Trossard feels upbeat about their prospects of winning their first league championship in more than 20 years despite the setback.
“We’ve come this far, so we need to maintain our confidence,” he stated. “It’s a difficult outcome, but we need to react because we have an important game coming up.”
Now, focus shifts to a pivotal series of games that might determine Arsenal’s season, including a pivotal encounter with Manchester City. Any more decline might be expensive because margins are getting tighter at the top.
