Kenneth Okonkwo 批评 Cubana 和 City Boys 嘲讽伊博文化,称恩迪博人狮子般狩猎、有尊严地进食。

Popular socialite Cubana Chief Priest and members of the “City Boys” movement have received a severe cultural and political censure from veteran Nollywood actor and well-known political activist Kenneth Okonkwo.

Speaking about the socialite’s recent scandals, such as the well reported event in which he was publicly shunned and jeered by a throng in Abuja, Okonkwo voiced his profound sorrow at what he called a flagrant disrespect of the prestigious Igbo heritage.

The lawyer and former political spokesperson reminded the socialites of the traditional Igbo attitude of hard labour, independence, and pride in a strongly worded reflection on the current political atmosphere. He cautioned that pursuing political favouritism or siding with institutions that stifle the people’s will is a clear betrayal of their ancestry.

“Ndigbo hunt like lions and eat with dignity,” Okonkwo is said to have said. He underlined that rather than participating in political praise-singing that jeopardises his cultural integrity, a real Igbo man acquires his riches and fame by justifiable, unquestionable struggle.

The “City Boys” identity, a well-known moniker currently connected to supporters and supporters of the governing political elite, was the focus of the criticism. Okonkwo contended that it goes against the fundamental ideals of the South-East to flaunt enormous wealth while the majority suffer or to use one’s celebrity status to legitimise repressive political systems.

He went on to say that genuine respect is acquired by standing with the people during challenging economic times rather than by ostentatious shows of wealth.

The widening gap between political activists who are calling for accountability and celebrity socialites who have sided with the governing elite is highlighted by this cultural confrontation. Figures like Okonkwo are increasingly urging well-known people to utilise their platforms to defend the masses rather than make fun of their everyday hardships as popular dissatisfaction with the economy continues to grow.
