According To NaijaOnPoint Reporter, the deal was finalized in Moscow last December and involves the delivery of 2,500 9M336 missiles and 500 Verba man-portable launch units between 2027 and 2029.
The agreement also includes 500 Mowgli-2 night-vision sights , allowing Iranian forces to track aircraft even in total darkness. The Verba system is equipped with a tri-color optical heat-seeker, capable of detecting targets with low radar signatures and distinguishing real threats from countermeasures like flares.
Iran requested the systems in July 2025 after aerial strikes targeted its nuclear facilities. According To NaijaOnPoint Reporter, the missiles are priced at €170,000 each, while the launch units cost €40,000. Military analysts describe the Verba as one of Russia’s most advanced portable air defense platforms, capable of destroying low-flying aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones at altitudes up to 4.5 km.
While the deal deepens Moscow-Tehran military cooperation , it does not create a mutual defense pact, but experts warn that the acquisition could shift regional security dynamics, especially amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
