At the conclusion of the Copa del Rey (King’s Cup) semi-final football match between FC Barcelona and Club Atletico de Madrid at Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona on March 3, 2026, Raphinha, a Brazilian forward ranked #11 for Barcelona, rests on the field.
Three intense games—two in the UEFA Champions League and one in the league—between FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will take place in just ten days.
These matches resemble the two-leg Copa Del Rey match between the two teams, in which the Blaugranes lost 4-3 on aggregate.
The real issue is far more convoluted this time. Because each game has its own goal, pressure points, and tactical considerations, this tripleheader is one of the most important times of the season for both sides.
The first match is a league encounter on April 4 between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
In terms of intent, this tie is significant for both teams. A victory for their opponents would bring them ahead of Villarreal in third place, while Barcelona would be hoping to maintain their 4-point advantage in the La Liga standings. The host team would be looking to exact revenge after Barcelona won the first leg 2-1 at Olympic Montjuic, their previous stadium. Barcelona’s most recent trip to the Wanda Metropolitano ended badly, as they gave up four goals in the first half alone.
Barcelona vs. Real Madrid is the second match (April 8, UCL)
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are set for a Spanish UCL quarterfinal after eliminating England’s Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur from the UCL Round of 16, respectively. Since this is a two-leg match where various strategic decisions can be made during both legs, both teams will want to avoid being careless. While the home team may choose to control the game, make sure they don’t give up goals, and complete the task in the first leg, the visitors may choose to sit back and defend so they can accomplish the job in the second leg.
This tie is influenced by several factors. A few players could be suspended with just one card. Giuliano, Ruggeri, Barrios, Pubill, Llorente, Le Normand, Lenglet, and Almada are from Atlético, while Lamine Yamal, Fermín, Gerard Martín, and Casvé are from Barça.
Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona in the third match (UCL, April 14)
Each team’s season is ultimately determined by this last tie. In addition to the possibility of a yellow card from the first leg of this match, the La Liga games on the weekend are important considerations. Atletico Madrid takes on Sevilla, while Barcelona faces Espanyol in a very difficult derby.
More intriguingly, Atletico Madrid will play Real Sociedad in the Copa Del Rey final four days after the Barcelona match.
This can only indicate that Diego Simeone’s team must align their priorities with the goals of the season.
