Singer Ayra Starr has spoken about the effect financial differences can have on romantic relationships, admitting that she believes she might become controlling if she were involved with a man who had less money than she did.
Her comments focused on how unequal financial circumstances could shape expectations, responsibilities, and the balance of power between partners.During an episode of the Wahala podcast, as reported by Daily Post on Friday August 28, 2026, the “Bloody Samaritan” hitmaker explained that she would still expect her partner to take on the traditional responsibility of providing for the relationship, even if she were the wealthier person.
In other words, her greater financial capacity would not change her expectations regarding his role as a provider.Ayra Starr also said she would choose not to disclose the full extent of her wealth to her partner.
She indicated that keeping her financial position private would allow her to maintain a degree of control over how the relationship developed and how her resources were perceived. In her words, “If I date a man who I am richer than, I will control him. But even if I am richer, he will still be providing, and I won’t let him know I have a lot of money.”
