According to a report published by Metro on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Fenerbahce have opened talks with Arsenal about a potential loan move for defender Cristhian Mosquera.Mosquera joined Arsenal from Valencia last summer in a deal worth £13 million, with additional payments included in the agreement.
The Spain Under-21 international also signed a five-year contract, underlining the club’s long-term confidence in his ability and potential. The 22-year-old enjoyed an encouraging first season in north London, making 20 starts across all competitions. His versatility made him a useful member of Mikel Arteta’s squad, as he was able to provide cover both at center-back and on the right side of the defense.Mosquera was called upon when William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes were unavailable because of injuries, gaining valuable experience in important matches. He also featured at right-back during the closing stages of last season and started in that position for Arsenal’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports from Turkey claim that Fenerbahce manager Ismail Kartal has specifically identified Mosquera as a preferred target while seeking to strengthen his defensive options. The Turkish club are therefore said to be negotiating with Arsenal over a possible temporary transfer. Nevertheless, the final decision regarding Mosquera’s future will be made by Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal added further defensive depth during the summer by signing Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa for £50 million. His arrival has increased competition for places throughout the backline, but Arsenal may still be unwilling to sanction Mosquera’s departure because of their current injury concerns. Saliba is expected to miss the opening months of the campaign as he continues to recover from a back problem, while Jurrien Timber has not yet returned to full first-team training after suffering a groin injury.Mosquera began Arsenal’s Premier League campaign in the starting lineup against Coventry City last Friday. He helped the Gunners record a convincing 3-0 victory and contributed to a clean sheet, further demonstrating his value as a dependable defensive option.
Arteta does have several alternatives available. Timber, Ben White, Riccardo Calafiori, Piero Hincapie, and Konsa can all cover more than one defensive position, while Myles Lewis-Skelly provides another option for the backline. Even so, Mosquera’s ability to operate in multiple roles and his recent first-team involvement could influence Arsenal’s decision over whether to approve Fenerbahce’s loan proposal.
