Arsenal Agree to Sign English Club Striker Days After 3-0 Win Over Coventry City

According to a BBC Sport report published on August 25, 2026, Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Igor Tyjon after improving their offer for the highly regarded young forward. The Gunners have already been active in the summer transfer market, adding experienced players such as Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa, and Christos Tzolis to Mikel Arteta’s squad. At the same time, the club has continued its broader strategy of investing in promising younger players who could eventually become important first-team contributors. That approach now appears to have produced a breakthrough in Arsenal’s pursuit of Tyjon.

Journalist Alan Nixon reports that the North London club have agreed a transfer fee with Blackburn following several unsuccessful bids. Arsenal are understood to have raised their proposal to £1.5 million, with additional performance-related payments and a 25 percent sell-on clause included in the agreement. The first add-on is reportedly worth a further £1 million and would become payable once Tyjon makes his senior debut for Arsenal. The structure of the deal gives Blackburn an immediate fee while also allowing the club to benefit financially if the striker develops into a successful first-team player and is later sold.Blackburn had previously been determined to retain Tyjon and turned down a number of Arsenal’s approaches. The situation had also become complicated by a contractual dispute, with the youngster scheduled to attend a hearing connected to the matter.

However, the reported agreement appears to have resolved the impasse, allowing Arsenal to secure the forward while giving Blackburn compensation for losing one of its most promising prospects. The move comes only a few days after Arsenal opened their Premier League campaign with an impressive 3-0 win over Coventry City. Arteta’s team made a strong start to their title defense, but the club’s recruitment plans suggest that it does not intend to rely solely on its current attacking options. Instead, Arsenal are attempting to strengthen the squad both for the present and for the long term.Tyjon is expected to be viewed primarily as a developmental signing rather than an immediate replacement or solution for Arsenal’s senior attack. The club will likely give him time to adjust to a new environment, continue his development, and compete for opportunities before expecting him to play a regular role at the highest level.

His arrival would therefore fit Arsenal’s continued effort to identify young players with the potential to become future first-team stars.Tyjon may not be the only forward Arsenal bring in before the transfer window closes. The Gunners are also reportedly monitoring Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as they consider adding a more established attacking option to Arteta’s squad.GIVEMESPORT correspondent Ben Jacobs has reported that Arsenal are prepared to make a serious attempt to sign Alvarez if they can persuade the Argentina international that a move to the Emirates Stadium is the right step for his career. The situation with Atletico remains complicated, and any transfer would depend heavily on Alvarez’s willingness to approve the move.

Nevertheless, Arsenal reportedly believe an agreement could be achievable if the player gives the proposal his backing. As a result, Arsenal could potentially complete the window by signing two very different types of forwards: Tyjon, a highly promising youngster intended for long-term development, and Alvarez, an established international capable of making an immediate impact in Arteta’s attack.
