Following outcry over alleged attacks on women during a contentious festival, police in Ozoro, Delta State, have detained a head priest and festival organizers.

Following popular demands for justice and viral footage, the arrests were made.

A major priest and a number of organizers connected to the contentious event in Ozoro, Delta State, have been detained by the Nigeria Police Force in response to many reports of attacks on female participants.

The most recent development occurred a few days after unsettling stories and widely shared recordings of young women being pursued, harassed, and attacked during the event near Southern Delta University appeared online. The incident sparked outrage nationwide, especially after a video showed a man allegedly mocking the victims and blaming them for ignoring warnings to stay indoors.

The top priest of Ozoro and members of the Oramudhu clan, who reportedly planned the event without notifying the traditional monarch, are among those detained, according to reports.

Since many Nigerians had demanded prompt action and justice for the victims, the arrests are a reaction to mounting public pressure.

The police intervention is viewed as a step toward accountability in a case that has received widespread attention, even though officials have not yet disclosed all the specifics of the inquiry.

In other news… Businesswoman Tracy Ohiri has come under fire from human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju for her long conflict with Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi.

In response to the scandal, Adeyanju questioned Ohiri’s integrity claims, claiming she was deceived and that she couldn’t keep money.

Please refund the $70,000 first if you say your attorney deceived you into reaching a settlement with David Umahi and you now have integrity after apologizing to him.

We will be able to take you seriously in this way. After being duped, how can you take money? He stated, “You can’t claim to be honest while keeping Umahi’s money.

“Ohiri’s assertions that she was offered $70,000 instead of the agreed-upon ₦305,550,000 have put her in the public eye and generated a lot of responses and rebuttals.
