In a stirring turn of events that has captured the attention of the public, Hon. Audu Mustapha Ganga, the current representative for the Magumeri Constituency in the Borno State House of Assembly, is facing intense scrutiny and backlash after a poignant video featuring him surfaced online. In this emotional clip, Ganga, who has held office for an impressive 16 years, is seen tearfully pleading for support from his constituents as he embarks on his quest for a fifth term in office.

The viral video, reported by Naija News, showcases Ganga visibly moved as he reaches out to the people he has served, imploring them to endorse his candidacy amidst mounting calls for fresh representation. In his heartfelt plea, he reflects on his humble beginnings, stating, “You know I am from a poor background, but I was able to do many things for you. I promise to give you better representation if given another chance.” This statement underlines his narrative of overcoming adversity in service of his community, yet it seems to have struck a chord that resonates differently with various segments of his constituency.

According to further reports from Daily Trust, the political landscape is heating up as six ambitious individuals have already acquired their expression of interest and nomination forms, eager to contest for the highly coveted position. This influx of challengers showcases a growing desire among constituents for new ideas and fresh leadership.

As Ganga’s emotional display made waves across social media, the reactions have been anything but uniform. Some voices in the digital space have expressed strong criticism. For instance, Abubakar Hassan bluntly remarked, “You now know that you came from a poor background after disrespecting your leaders; you know the governor will not spare you.” This comment reflects the sentiment among some who perceive Ganga’s past actions as undermining his credibility.

Comr Ismill chimed in with sarcasm, stating, “As if na only him want to enjoy the seat… Let him cry till he lost his sight!” showcasing the frustrations of constituents who feel that long-held positions should provide room for new leadership. Similarly, Mu’azu Hassan quipped, “It’s not easy providing food for the family. No food for lazy man,” emphasizing the challenges many face in their daily lives and questioning the effectiveness of longstanding leadership.

Meanwhile, Mubarak Faje posed a thought-provoking query, “Na him family house abi Na his birth right?” suggesting that the entitlement to political office should not be treated as a family inheritance. In stark juxtaposition, Yusuf Mikail D’Fresh asserted, “If he did what’s right, there’s no need shedding tears, he will win unopposed,” highlighting the belief that ethical governance could eliminate the necessity for emotional appeals.

Anas Hamza took a more dismissive tone, asserting, “Na him papa house? Comot give road for a competent man jare,” expressing skepticism towards Ganga’s claims and advocating for a shift toward capable leadership. However, not all reactions were hostile; some defended Ganga, like Lawan Modu, who commented, “Hon Ganga has impacted the lives of youth and women through empowerment and job creation. Shedding tears is not a sign of weakness,” indicating a recognition of the positive contributions he has made during his tenure.

On the contrary, Muhammad Abba Kura skeptically remarked, “You are shedding crocodile tears,” while Musa Yakubu Olagbaigbai simply stated, “After 16 years… Abeg move on and let others breathe,” showcasing the weariness around prolonged political incumbency.

The mix of passionate responses illustrates the complexities of the electoral landscape in Borno State, emphasizing the deep-rooted sentiments among constituents about the need for change and effective representation. With elections approaching and the political atmosphere charged with emotion and expectation, it remains to be seen how Ganga’s emotional appeal will influence the decisions of voters in the enchanting yet challenging terrain of the Magumeri Constituency.
