The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO Aviance) has received a new five-year appointment to serve as the general sales agent for Air France-KLM in Nigeria. Under the agreement, NAHCO, acting through its subsidiary NAHCO Travel & Hospitality Limited, is authorized to market and sell tickets for the airline group throughout the Nigerian market. This responsibility includes supporting customers through the airline group’s ticketing channels and making its services available through retail sales outlets across the country.
The appointment represents a significant expansion of NAHCO’s commercial relationship with Air France-KLM. Although NAHCO has traditionally been associated with airport handling services, the new mandate extends its activities into nationwide ticket sales, City Ticketing Office operations, and broader retail distribution. This gives the company a more extensive role in supporting Air France-KLM’s commercial presence in Nigeria.
Sales Agent Role Expands NAHCO-Air France-KLM Partnership
Under the new agreement, NAHCO Travel & Hospitality Limited will manage ticket sales on behalf of Air France-KLM for a five-year period. Its responsibilities will include handling sales through City Ticketing Offices and coordinating retail ticket distribution across Nigeria. Through these activities, customers in different parts of the country will have access to Air France-KLM ticketing services beyond the airline group’s airport-based offices.
The appointment marks a clear shift from the organizations’ previous arrangement. NAHCO had previously operated Air France-KLM’s Airport Ticket Offices under the Standard Ground Handling Agreement between the two organizations. That earlier role was connected primarily to NAHCO’s established ground handling responsibilities at the airport.
The new General Sales Agent agreement, however, is separate from the existing ground handling framework. It establishes an additional commercial relationship focused specifically on ticket sales and distribution. As a result, NAHCO now has a broader role in Air France-KLM’s ticketing activities throughout Nigeria, while continuing to build on its longstanding association with the airline group.
According to NAHCO, the agreement formally broadens its mandate from providing ticketing support at airport terminals to serving as Air France-KLM’s full commercial ticketing representative in Nigeria. This expanded responsibility gives NAHCO a more direct role in the airline group’s sales and customer-facing activities while reinforcing its standing in Nigeria’s broader aviation services sector.
The development also advances NAHCO Group’s strategy of building a more diversified business beyond its conventional aviation ground handling operations, which include ramp handling, cargo processing, passenger services and baggage handling. In addition to these core activities, the group’s expanding interests now encompass travel and hospitality, logistics, energy, airport management and commodity exports, reflecting an effort to establish multiple sources of commercial growth.
NAHCO Targets Greater Commercial Aviation Role
Speaking about the agreement, Group Executive Director, Commercial and Business Development, NAHCO Plc, Prince Saheed Lasisi, described the appointment as a significant milestone in the company’s longstanding relationship with Air France-KLM.
He said the transition reflects the confidence the airline group has placed in NAHCO’s operational capabilities, commercial expertise and reach across the Nigerian market.
“Moving from handling airport terminal ticketing under the traditional SGHA framework to assuming full commercial ticketing authority across Nigeria demonstrates the immense trust Air France-KLM places in our corporate capabilities and market reach.”
Lasisi’s remarks highlight the agreement’s importance to NAHCO’s evolving business model. The new mandate positions the company to participate more fully in commercial aviation activities while building on the operational experience and market presence it has developed through its established airport services. The company is positioning itself as more than a conventional ground handling provider, expanding its role into services that connect airport operations with broader travel and commercial activities.
Meanwhile, Air France-KLM is expected to benefit from NAHCO’s established presence across Nigeria’s aviation and travel ecosystem. Through this relationship, the airline group could gain stronger access to travelers, travel management companies, and other commercial partners in key markets throughout the country.
NAHCO said its market penetration, local knowledge, and corporate infrastructure would support Air France-KLM’s commercial distribution strategy. The partnership is also expected to give the airline group greater flexibility in responding to market opportunities and improving its commercial agility in Nigeria.
Nigeria remains a significant aviation market in West Africa, supported by substantial passenger demand and an extensive network of business and leisure travelers. Therefore, an expanded local ticketing and distribution network could provide Air France-KLM with more direct access to customers beyond traditional airport-based sales channels.
Five-Year Deal Opens New Chapter for NAHCO
The five-year agreement represents a new chapter in NAHCO’s relationship with Air France-KLM. It also demonstrates how established ground handling relationships can develop into broader commercial partnerships that support additional areas of the travel value chain.
For NAHCO, the agreement creates an opportunity to deepen its involvement in the passenger journey. Rather than focusing primarily on services delivered around aircraft operations, the company will now participate directly in ticket distribution, helping connect travelers with the airline’s available services.
This shift could also strengthen NAHCO’s travel and hospitality business by expanding its commercial offering and creating opportunities to serve customers before, during, and after their airport experience. Through its subsidiary, the company can draw on its aviation expertise, industry knowledge, and established corporate relationships to support ticket sales, distribution, and other customer-facing commercial activities. This position could enable NAHCO to contribute more directly to how passengers access airline services while extending the value of its existing aviation capabilities.
The expanded responsibility could also deepen NAHCO’s relationships with travel management companies operating throughout Nigeria. A nationwide ticketing mandate would give the company a more prominent position in the distribution chain, linking airlines with travel businesses and passengers across multiple markets and locations.
NAHCO’s appointment as a sales agent therefore moves the company closer to the commercial side of international airline operations, complementing its longstanding role in airport and aviation support services.
NAHCO Builds on Four Decades of Aviation Experience
NAHCO has a long-established presence in Nigeria’s aviation industry. The company was created in December 1979 by the Federal Government through the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, in partnership with four international airlines.
The founding airlines were Air France, British Airways, Sabena and Lufthansa. Since then, NAHCO has developed beyond its original ground handling structure and become a publicly quoted Nigerian company listed on the Nigerian Exchange.
Today, NAHCO operates at major airports across Nigeria and delivers services spanning several parts of the aviation value chain. Its activities support airlines and other industry participants in areas that extend beyond traditional ground handling.
Over the decades, the company has also significantly broadened its business portfolio, reflecting its continued expansion within Nigeria’s aviation and related commercial sectors. The group’s investments now extend across a broad range of sectors, including energy, logistics, free trade zone operations, airport management, travel and hospitality, and the export of commodities. This diversified portfolio reflects the company’s efforts to build a wider commercial platform beyond its traditional aviation-related activities.
Against this backdrop, the agreement with Air France-KLM forms part of a broader transformation of NAHCO’s business interests. The company is leveraging its aviation infrastructure, operational expertise, and established relationships across the industry to identify and develop additional commercial opportunities, potentially strengthening its role in related sectors and expanding the value generated from its existing assets.
