The Punch reported on Saturday, March 28, 2026, that Amir Ghalenoei, the head coach of Iran’s national team, has praised the Super Eagles after his team lost a high-stakes international friendly in Antalya, Turkey, 2-1.
The Nigerian team showed to be too strong both physically and technically during the Friday night match, the Iranian strategist acknowledged.
Moses Simon gave Nigeria an early lead in the sixth minute, laying the stage for a commanding performance. Shortly after halftime, Akor Adams struck the back of the goal to double the lead.
Mehdi Taremi gave Iran a comeback in the 67th minute, but the Super Eagles held their position and won.
Ghalenoei emphasized the exceptional quality of the Nigerian ranks in an interview with Tasnim News Agency following the final whistle.
He brought up the Super Eagles’ starting eleven, which included players from Europe’s “Big Five” leagues, such as Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi.
Nigeria is a very good team,” he said. “The game was a perfect test for his defense, allowing him to implement tactical changes against world-class opposition.” The coach pointed out that all eleven of the players on the field compete in important European leagues, including those in Spain, Italy, and England.
Additionally, he expressed delight with the friendly format, which permitted eight substitutes and allowed him to assess the depth of his squad before competitive matches.
As they get ready for their next game, the Super Eagles are playing at their best right now. On Tuesday, March 31, they will play another friendly encounter against Jordan to conclude their March international window.
As the squad tries to continue its winning streak with the current technical setup, fans are already excited.
