Meet Michael Odesanya, a dedicated professional who devoted three decades of his life to serving the community as the Head of Administration and Human Resources at the Kosofe Local Government. After 30 years of hard work, in March 2026, Michael eagerly anticipated the next chapter of his life as a retiree. However, his transition has been far from smooth.
Michael, who courageously navigates life with a physical challenge, has faced unexpected hurdles in the form of severe delays in receiving his pension and gratuity. His retirement file, filled with paperwork that should have facilitated a seamless transition into retirement, was instead returned due to requests for additional documentation, leaving him in a state of financial limbo.
Months have passed, and still, he finds himself waiting for the benefits he rightfully earned. With bills piling up and financial responsibilities looming, Michael is now forced to rely on the kindness of friends and family to meet his essential needs. He describes his situation with a heavy heart, referring to himself as an “executive beggar,” a term that encapsulates the struggle many retirees face when their years of service yield little or no immediate support in their golden years. In light of his dire circumstances, Michael is making a heartfelt appeal to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He implores the governor to intervene and take a closer look at how retirees’ files are managed within the system. His message is clear: individuals who dedicated their lives to public service for decades deserve not only respect but also prompt and fair payment of their pensions and gratuities.
Michael’s story is a poignant reminder of the challenges many retirees face, and it emphasizes the urgent need for reform in the way we honor and support those who have devoted their careers to serving the community. Let’s come together to advocate for our retired heroes!
