In a report published on Tuesday, August 2, 2026, the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, conveyed a strong sense of confidence regarding his prospects in the upcoming August 15 governorship election. Governor Adeleke articulated that his anticipated victory hinges on the condition that the electoral process is conducted with utmost transparency and is entirely free from any form of manipulation or rigging. He made these sentiments public on Monday during an energetic campaign rally held in Osogbo, the state capital, where he addressed a large gathering of his supporters.
Governor Adeleke reiterated his firm belief in his ability to retain his gubernatorial seat, emphasizing that a credible and impartial electoral framework would undoubtedly prove to be advantageous for his campaign. “With divine assistance, I am assured of triumph,” he declared, further elaborating, “If this election unfolds as a free and fair exercise, my victory is assured.”
Beyond expressing optimism about the election’s outcome, the governor also voiced significant concerns pertaining to the prevailing security situation in Osun State as the election draws nearer. He leveled allegations that certain members associated with the Accord Party have been subjected to violence and fatalities. In light of these disturbing reports, Governor Adeleke issued a direct appeal to President Bola Tinubu, imploring his intervention to ensure that the nation’s security agencies operate with a high degree of professionalism and unwavering impartiality throughout the entire electoral period.
Addressing the President directly, Governor Adeleke characterized him as a father figure, urging him to prioritize and guarantee the safety and security of all residents of Osun State, both in the lead-up to the election, during the voting process, and in its aftermath. “Mr. President, there are deeply troubling events unfolding in Osun that necessitate your immediate attention. Our citizens are facing threats and violence, and as our father, we humbly appeal to you for your decisive action. We will unequivocally reject any attempts to subvert the democratic will of the people through electoral fraud. We implore you not to permit the perpetration of violence against innocent individuals,” he stated. He further urged the President to issue clear directives to the police force, mandating them to conduct their duties with the highest standards of professionalism and impartiality.
Governor Adeleke underscored the fundamental right of the people of Osun State to freely participate in the democratic process, asserting that they should be empowered to exercise their suffrage without facing any form of intimidation, violence, or external interference. These pronouncements from the governor emerged at a time when political activities across Osun State have reached a fever pitch, with all candidates and their campaign teams intensifying their efforts to garner support and engage with voters across the state in anticipation of the August 15 gubernatorial poll. Governor Adeleke maintained his stance that a level playing field and a transparent electoral system are paramount, as they would empower the electorate to make an unfettered choice of their preferred candidate and ensure that the eventual winner emerges through the genuine and unadulterated will of the people.
