If you’re an MTN subscriber eager to find out if you’ve been selected to receive the Federal Government’s generous ₦50,000 monthly financial assistance, look no further! There’s now a dedicated USSD service available, courtesy of MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB), specifically designed to help you confirm your eligibility for this vital program.By simply dialing the provided code, you’ll be able to check your status and respond if you’ve been selected as a beneficiary of the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).
This important initiative aims to support financially vulnerable households across Nigeria, and payment is being carried out through recognized platforms as beneficiaries are identified and processed in batches.
How to Gain Access to Your ₦50,000 Support via MTN
To access this potentially life-changing support, begin by dialing the designated USSD code. Once you do, follow the on-screen prompts that will guide you through the process of determining whether you qualify for this financial assistance. If you are confirmed as a beneficiary, you may be asked to provide your consent before the funds can be transferred to your mobile wallet.
For those who might not have a MoMo wallet yet, don’t worry! You can easily set one up by either dialing *671# or downloading the official MoMo NG application. Once the funds are deposited, you have multiple convenient ways to access your money—whether through the MoMo application, the USSD service, or visits to authorized MoMo agents. You can even transfer the funds to your bank account for added flexibility.
Understanding the Payment Process for Beneficiaries
The Federal Government wants to ensure that all selected Nigerians receive their assistance in a streamlined manner. On October 30, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, made an important announcement regarding the payment process.
Beneficiaries will receive direct messages from their designated payment providers asking for their approval before payments are executed. Doro emphasized the seriousness and reliability of these communications, stating, “Beneficiaries will receive an SMS from one of these providers asking for their consent. This message is genuine. Once consent is given, payment is made directly to the beneficiary’s account or mobile wallet.” The approved payment platforms include MoMo PSB, ALAT by Wema, NairaGram, OPay, and Moniepoint. To determine eligibility, the government uses verified national identity records and data from the National Social Register. Importantly, there is no need for potential beneficiaries to apply separately, pay a fee, or register through intermediaries to receive this assistance.
A Cautionary Note from MTN Regarding Fraudulent Messages
As this payment system rolls out, it’s crucial to remain vigilant. Unfortunately, misleading messages targeting subscribers are circulating, especially among those who have yet to receive their financial assistance. One particular fraudulent message instructs recipients whose status reads “NOT ELIGIBLE” to send “YES” to an unofficial code, falsely promising that eligibility can be granted within 24 hours.
MTN Nigeria Support has taken a firm stance against these deceptive communications, reminding subscribers that such messages do not originate from the company. They have urged customers to ignore these fraudulent instructions and refrain from engaging with any suspicious links or providing personal information.
MTN Support has stated: “Please be informed that the information shared is not from MTN. Kindly disregard the message and do not click on any unverified links, share personal information, OTPs, PINs, passwords, or make any payments based on such messages.
“Additionally, the Ministry has emphasized the importance of safeguarding your banking PINs and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs), urging individuals not to disclose these to anyone falsely claiming to facilitate payments.
What About Those Marked as NOT SELECTED?
For those who have received a notification stating “NOT SELECTED,” it’s essential to understand that the distribution of assistance is taking place in phases. This means that just because you’ve received this notification now doesn’t mean that you’re permanently excluded from future rounds of support.
However, the government has not guaranteed that everyone who misses out on the current batch will qualify for assistance in subsequent distributions. The entire program is designed to be free of charge, and beneficiaries should solely rely on official channels for updates and notifications regarding their eligibility.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, you can contact the NERSI helpline at 0700-022-2222 or reach out to MoMo PSB customer support by dialing 671. Stay informed and engaged as we navigate this important initiative together!
