Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he will take his time to consider his future following Portugal’s exit from the World Cup, a sobering conclusion to his tournament run after a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the last-16 match on Monday. The 41-year-old football legend, who had previously stated this World Cup would be his last, spoke candidly about his next steps.
“Yes, it was my last World Cup, but I’ll have time to think about the rest,” he said. “I want to be with my family, avoid rash decisions, and just carry on with life.”After the match, Ronaldo reflected on the unpredictable nature of football.
“That’s football; that’s the life of a footballer. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and you have to move on.”As the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football, Ronaldo emphasized that he would leave the tournament with no regrets. “The biggest title I won with the national team was in 2016 (the Euros), which I consider as significant as a World Cup, honestly,” he stated, reinforcing his satisfaction with his legacy. “I’m leaving with a clear conscience, at my best.
Tomorrow is a new day, and life goes on.”Despite his illustrious career, which includes being crowned European champion a decade ago, Ronaldo has yet to clinch World Cup glory; his highest achievement was reaching the semi-finals two decades ago.
