In a remarkable display of vigilance and proactive policing, the Benue State Police Command has successfully apprehended five individuals from Pakistan during a series of well-coordinated intelligence-led operations in the Otukpo and Ugbokolo regions. This significant development came to light through an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The operations led to the surprising recovery of a staggering 35 mobile phones, raising questions about the true intentions of the apprehended suspects. The first wave of arrests took place on August 4, at the bustling Adoka Motor Park, where three men—identified as Younas Mohammad (36), Ahmad Nunil (38), and Aslam Muhammad (46)—were intercepted as they were reportedly preparing to embark on a journey to Adoka village.
In their initial statements, the men claimed they were in the area for the purpose of marketing cosmetics and mobile gadgets. However, the police could not find any such products in their possession. This inconsistency has certainly escalated suspicions about their real activities and motives while in Otukpo.Just a day later, another operation unfolded on August 5, leading to the arrest of two more Pakistani nationals, Juma Sharif (30) and Muhammed Sharif (25), at a local hotel in Ugbokolo. These suspects professed to be dealers in Android phones, but their story unraveled when investigators discovered 11 Tecno Camon 50 Pro phones among their belongings.
A deeper dive into their operational dynamics led to the recovery of an additional 23 Tecno Camon 50 Pro units and one Infinix Hot 60 phone, culminating in a total haul of 35 mobile devices. The five detained suspects have now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi, where a thorough and discreet investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding their presence in the state.
Police officials harbor strong suspicions that the possession of so many mobile phones might be a mere front for more clandestine activities, particularly considering difficulties in communication; the suspects reportedly have a limited understanding of English. In light of these events, the Benue State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its residents. The operations conducted are an integral part of a broader, intelligence-driven policing strategy aimed at identifying potential security threats and preventing criminal activities across the region.
The Commissioner of Police for Benue State, CP Cletus C. N. Nwadiogbu, psc(+), mnips, PhD, commended the diligent officers involved in these operations, as well as the courageous members of the community whose timely information proved invaluable in facilitating these arrests. He further encouraged all residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individuals, actions, or behaviors to the authorities. As this investigation progresses, the Benue State Police Command is dedicated to working collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to maintain peace and security across the state.
