The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Osun State, Mr. Teslim Igbalaye, has confidently predicted a resounding victory for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the upcoming governorship election, projecting a lead of over 100,000 votes against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Igbalaye made this assertion during an interview with journalists in Osogbo, the state capital, where he articulated the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) preparedness and the perceived weaknesses of the opposition. He expressed strong optimism that Governor Adeleke’s developmental strides and the party’s robust electoral machinery would translate into a significant win, solidifying the PDP’s hold on the state’s leadership.
Igbalaye’s forecast is rooted in what he described as the current administration’s track record of performance and the overwhelming support the governor enjoys across the state. He highlighted various initiatives undertaken by Governor Adeleke, emphasizing their positive impact on the lives of Osun residents.
According to the SSG, the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the people, including timely payment of salaries, infrastructure development, and educational reforms, has endeared him to the electorate. He specifically pointed to the governor’s proactive approach in addressing critical issues, which he believes has built a strong foundation of trust and loyalty among voters.
The SSG further elaborated on the strategic advantage the PDP possesses, citing the party’s grassroots mobilization efforts and the active participation of its members and stakeholders. He stated that the party has a well-structured campaign team that is already engaged in intensive outreach programs across all local government areas of Osun State. These efforts, he explained, are designed to ensure that the PDP’s message of continuity and progress reaches every segment of the population, from urban centers to remote rural communities.
Igbalaye underscored the importance of these engagements in solidifying voter commitment and in counteracting any potential opposition narratives. In his assessment of the opposition, Igbalaye was less charitable, suggesting that the APC lacks a clear vision and compelling agenda for Osun State. He characterized the APC’s campaign as lacking substance and relying heavily on what he termed “negative propaganda” rather than presenting tangible solutions to the state’s challenges. The SSG suggested that the APC’s strategy would likely fail to resonate with the Osun populace, who he believes are more interested in concrete achievements and forward-looking policies.
He posited that the electorate has seen the difference in governance under Governor Adeleke and would therefore not be swayed by what he described as the APC’s empty promises. The prediction by the SSG is a significant statement of confidence from within the PDP’s leadership, signaling their belief in the electoral strength of Governor Adeleke. This forecast sets a high bar for the upcoming contest and suggests that the PDP is not only aiming for a win but a decisive one that leaves no room for ambiguity.
The mention of a margin exceeding 100,000 votes indicates a strategic calculation based on anticipated voter turnout and the projected performance of the PDP across the 30 local government areas of Osun State. Igbalaye alluded to the internal dynamics within the APC, suggesting that they might be facing internal challenges that could affect their unity and electoral prospects. While not delving into specifics, his remarks hinted at potential fissures or a lack of cohesive leadership within the opposition party, which he believes the PDP will be able to capitalize on.
He suggested that a united and focused PDP, in contrast to a potentially divided opposition, would offer a clear advantage in the electoral landscape. The SSG also emphasized the importance of peaceful elections, urging all political actors to adhere to the electoral laws and to conduct their campaigns with decorum. He stated that Governor Adeleke and the PDP are committed to a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, and that they would not engage in any acts that could undermine the integrity of the election.
Igbalaye called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a level playing field for all parties and to protect the sanctity of the ballot. Furthermore, Igbalaye stressed that the projected victory for Governor Adeleke would serve as a testament to the efficacy of his governance model, which he described as people-centered and development-oriented. He reiterated that the governor’s administration has prioritized key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure, with tangible results already being observed.
He assured the citizens of Osun State that a second term for Governor Adeleke would mean a continuation and acceleration of these developmental efforts, further transforming the state into a model of progress and prosperity in Nigeria. The SSG’s pronouncements serve as a clear indication of the PDP’s campaign strategy and their confidence in securing another term for Governor Adeleke. The prediction of a substantial victory margin underscores their belief that the governor’s performance and the party’s organizational strength are insurmountable advantages.
As the election approaches, such strong pronouncements from key party figures often signal a robust campaign effort and an attempt to set the narrative and preemptively build momentum. The coming weeks will reveal whether the SSG’s optimistic forecast will translate into the projected electoral outcome on election day.
