Former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has fired off a fierce warning to political supporters in the state, insisting that no political ambition justifies putting any Nigerian’s life at risk! In a heated address at a community gathering, Amaechi slammed the rising political tensions, demanding that residents keep their cool and refrain from any acts of violence that could endanger innocent lives. Enough is enough!
The gathering was filled with a palpable mix of frustration and concern, as many residents are sick and tired of the fear and uncertainty that always plague election periods in Rivers State.
Amaechi had the nerve to acknowledge this suffocating climate of anxiety while reminding supporters that political engagement should respect the law and human life.Speaking to members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the former governor bluntly stated, “ADC supporters, don’t even think about engaging in violence, as it could lead to loss of life.” This wasn’t just a suggestion; it was a desperate plea for restraint, underscoring the dangers of letting political disagreements spiral out of control.
Amaechi made it abundantly clear that his appeal was directed at the youth, pushing them to utilize dialogue and peaceful expression instead of physical confrontation. Why? Because when violence breaks out, it’s the ordinary citizens—especially those stuck in Port Harcourt and nearby villages—who suffer the brunt of it. He made it crystal clear: it’s the people on the streets, not the political elites, who pay dearly during these chaotic times.
The former governor’s address was a frustrating reminder that democratic participation is taken for granted, and that citizens should be able to support their candidates without the threat of violence hanging over them. By preaching calm and lawful political activity, Amaechi seems to overlook the reality of our divided society. It’s infuriating that we have to even hope for an environment where differing opinions can coexist peacefully without fear of harm or intimidation!
